Wendy Janssens is Full Professor in Development Economics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, member of the Executive Board of the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) and research fellow at the Tinbergen Institute. Her research focuses on evaluating the impact of programs addressing access to healthcare and health insurance, maternal and child health, women’s empowerment, and child development. She has extensive experience in designing and coordinating interdisciplinary, mixed-methods research projects, to provide rigorous and locally grounded policy advice to national and international organisations as well as governments. Currently, she is leading amongst others an interdisciplinary research programme on mobile technology and universal health coverage for mothers and children in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her work has been published in high-ranking journals in economics, health, and demography. Since 2018, she has also been working as research advisor for PharmAccess Foundation, an international organization that aims to make health markets work for the poor in Africa. Within the IMPALA project, she is Work Package lead for the implementation research and cost-effectiveness study.
