Amsterdam Institute for Global Health & Development
The Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) is an international research and education institute that works to develop sustainable solutions to major health problems. By taking a problem-oriented approach, AIGHD transcends the boundaries of traditional academic disciplines and integrates three fundamental activities into one institute:
• Research
• education & capacity building
• policy & impact
AIGHD was initiated as a partnership between the Amsterdam UMC, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Today, it is a dynamic research and education institute that thrives on intense collaboration among experts from multiple disciplines including biomedicine, economics and social and behavioral sciences. With its interdisciplinary and translational approach, AIGHD addresses the most critical medical, social, economic and political challenges in global health and development that cut across national and political borders.
To realize its vision of ‘‘access to high quality health care for all’’, AIGHD closely collaborates with implementing partners and organizations from both public and private sectors around the globe. AIGHD works by linking expertise, resources and programs from organizations involved in health-related research, education, capacity building and policy making, bringing a ‘delivery perspective’ to health research and a ‘quality aspect’ to health care services..

The National eHealth Living Lab
The National eHealth Living Lab (NeLL) (in the near future WeLL, World eHealth Living Lab) is an independent, international platform where everyone involved or interested in evidence-based eHealth applications and digital health can find and bring news, insights and inspiration. The individuals and parties participating in NeLL contribute to this innovative collaboration through knowledge sharing, exchange of staff and PhD students, the joint writing of proposals and scientific papers, and participating in concrete eHealth and digital health-related projects.
NeLL serves as a showcase for sharing information about relevant eHealth projects. The aim is to provide insight into what is being developed and where opportunities still lie, helping avoid fragmentation. It also enables community members to interact with the network and to showcase their own, or their organisation’s, experience and expertise.
At NeLL, we consider co-creation (with the end user - patient and/or healthcare provider) essential in the development of useful new healthcare applications. We also believe it is imperative that eHealth tools are subjected to scientific research so that we can prove what is expedient and what is not.
Ultimately, we aim to realise scientifically-proven, effective eHealth applications in order to enable them to become a fully-integrated part of effective healthcare and to upscale these tools in the Netherlands and internationally. In doing so, we are improving and future-proofing healthcare.
