Dr. David Chaima is a Lecturer in Microbiology at the Kamuzu University of Heath Sciences, School of Medicine and Oral Health, Department of Pathology. He holds a PhD from the University of London, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, a Master of Science degree in Immunology from the University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin and a BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Malawi.

He has over 12-years experience working in clinical and research laboratory settings conducting and supervising various laboratory procedures. Over the past 6 years, Dr. Chaima’s research work has focused at exploring associations between the gut microbiome, enteropathogens and environmental enteric dysfunction in Malawian children and the impact on children’s health growth. His current research work focuses on the molecular epidemiology of soil-transmitted helminths and Giardiasis and their impact on the human gut microbiome in high transmission settings for parasitic worms in Malawi, and the implications of such microbiome changes for childhood growth

In the IMPALA project, he will act as a PhD supervisor to Jacquline Msefula
